The upper air burst into life! And a hundred fire-flags sheen, To and fro they were hurried about! And to and fro, and in and out, The wan stars danced between. And the coming wind did roar more loud, And the sails did sigh like sedge; And the rain poured down from one black cloud; The Moon was at its edge.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge - Leonids of 1797

What's new?
Why use a FM Receiver for your Radio Observatory?

There are several reasons for observing with a FM Receiver.  They are relatively easy to operate, don't require much cost to setup, and an easy concept for most amateur astronomer enthusiasts that don't have a lot of time to devote to bigger Radio Observatories.  Monitoring meteors is an easy subject to start with.  Hopefully for some, this is the start to something bigger.  Most importantly, it's interesting and fun!

Welcome...

Amateurs and professionals alike enjoy many different methods of observing the skies.  FM Radio astronomy has been gaining popularity lately due to its ease and uniqueness.  It's unique, due to the fact that it's not a visual observation technique, but an audible observation.  For the techno-geek, it's called listening to Forward Scatter.  The technique that I explain isn't for listening to the heavens, the moon, or the pulse of 'nearby' binary star.  It's a technique for listening to falling meteors.  That's right!  You can 'listen' to falling meteors!  Please visit the Classroom to learn how to setup your own FM Radio Astronomy Lab.  Enjoy!
